See i really wanted to go to the library today. okay maybe not "reeally wanted to go" la but i had to go to borrow a book for one of my essays. then i checked online to see if the library had that book but all the copies were all out.

It's a sign i tell you. A sign that i shouldn't go to the library. So now i'm at home once again slaving away at my essay(s). well i wish i was slaving away la. more like working for half an hour and taking long ass breaks. haha. Sooo not good.

how now brown cow. i need my laptop to do work but my laptop is also distracting me :S i dunno how i managed to do it during christmas holidays lor. aarghh no time!!!!

arrghh my stupid C drive is annoying the hell outta me!!! I have no idea why i only have like an average of 150mb of space left on it even though i haven't installed anything new on it!! I tried going online to look for solutions and i thought hey maybe it's because of some stupid system retore/shadow copy thingy these other ppl seem to be talking about so i tried their solutions. But it didn't work!! arghhhhh!!

It's been a week since my 21st bday... nothing's changed much.. except for the fact that i'm legally an adult now and can vote now in the elections in M'sia. haha. and i can also legally get married but first must find candidate la. hahahaha.

Anyway.. surprisingly, i had a pretty eventful bday. On the 16th, we had a Post Mnight Syndrome (PMS) social in Lib1 so i got to see a lot of the Mnight cast/crew again. Didn't eat much which was a waste coz it was Gogo's and pizza but i guess in retrospect it was good that i didn't eat so much. lol. Had fun chillin out and looking at some really REALLY awesome photos of Mnight which my friend Nic too with his super chunted SLR camera. the photos looked so professional they made our Mnight look so professional haha. But anyway, after the crowd thinned out, a bunch of my friends came in with a bday cake at around 10pm. Awwwwwwww.. but i was being bitchy laa haha coz i looked at my watch and purposely said aloud "Eh, whose bday??" Then En Li was like "Yours la you idiot!!!" So it was like kinda an early celebration but it was sweet of them la :) They got me a Black Forest cake, one of those cards with music, a box of chocolates from Thornton's (which btw is still sitting on my shelf untouched) and a Dumbo plushie! >_<

And.... for the first time in my life.. i actually got cake smashed into my face. I think ppl have attempted that previously but the worst that i've ever gotten is a bit of cream in my face. But shit man.. stupid Jon Siao.. he seriously smashed the cake into my face!! argh i can't believe i fell for it. Coz Joanna who was cutting the cake went "okay who wants to feed the bday girl?" and Jon stood up straight away smiling sneakily. Initially i thought "oh shit laa i dont' want cake on my face wehhh" and for a while i thought Jon wouldn't do it coz i reluctantly took a bite of the cake from his hand and he didn't do anything so i let my guard down. The next thing i knew i had cake face -_-' ishhh. and zomg cream got into my hair!!! -_-''

Anyway after 12am my hsemates knocked on my bedroom door with a cake (toffee caramel cake from Thornton's. sooo sinful but so good) lol so nice of them.. and Lucie had secretly made sushi for me! And she also made me my first lunch in my new bento box! awww :) chilled out for a while in the kitchen/living room with them and then retired to my bedroom. Oooh ooh and i finally could open the package which i got a few days before from Auntie jackie and ray from Ilkley! They got me a digital photo frame! so kewl!!! >_< must rmb to call them up and thank them this week..

On my bday everything was pretty much normal.. my friend Jimmy bought me a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts which was being sold for charity after Connie hinted a bit too loudly that it was my bday when he walked pass us in the library. lol. damn cute. but it was so nice of him laa. haha. At night had an impromptu dinner at Old Clarence (the pub near my place) and then Connie and Azimah surprised me with chocolate cake they got from Tesco! Wendy was in cohorts with them coz i was telling Wendy a few days back how i was craving for chocolate cake loll. And while we were having dinner, this old English man who was having dinner with his family came over and asked whose bday it was.. I said that it was mine and he shook my hand and said that it was his bday too. loll so coincidental. I went over and gave him a slice of my choc cake. He was such a sweet gentleman, kissed my hand and all. loll.

All in all i had a great bday. I got lots of presents from unexpected ppl and lotsa cards as well.. Thanks guys for everything! :) oh and erm to the "jizz gang" (not that they would ever read this post i guess) u guys suck laa. But thank you for taking time out to make THAT vid and all. haha. I don't think i'll ever forget the song.. and i'm pretty sure none of you guys will let me forget it either. haha.

this time last week

This time last week i was backstage at the Belgrade Theatre feeling nervous and anxious. I was running around in my "mom" outfit making sure everything was more or less in place. Going back and forth between backstage and the Patrick Suite on the 5th floor where the dikir barat ppl were.

This time last week was the University of Warwick's Malaysia Night.

I can't believe it's been a week. I can't believe it's over. I'm still surviving on the high of Mnight now. Man i really miss the whole package; the excitement, the stress, the friends you meet. Well okay maybe not the stress but it wouldn't be Mnight without the stress. lol. I'm so happy it was SOOO good. And i'm also very happy ppl found new friends along the process. I now remember why I ran for a post in MSA. One of the regrets i have is that i didn't get to take much photos on Mnight itself coz i was so busy getting things done. Sigh. I didn't take much photos last year either. Sighh. Ah well.. 3rd year la i guess. lol

Anyway thank god for reading week. Was supposed to catch up on sleep but i think i ended up playing around more now that i had free time on my hands. Went shopping with my friend and bought a new pair of jeans and 2 new shirts. yay :) went for a post Mnight cast + crew gathering at my friend's kitchen in Lakeside and then stayed over at another friend's place on campus and watched this Thai horror movie till 5am. Then next morn went to town again to the police station with d same friend coz her super expensive Miu Miu wallet was stolen. Then went to eat at Noodle Bar and then went to Primark. Then came home and showered then went back out for another slumber party where we watched Ringu. Then next day went to London and fell sick :( came back to campus and half-slept through Nightmare on Elm Street which some of them were watching in Lib1.

worrying comments

So on Sunday and Monday i wore my black skinny jeans coz i was too lazy to wear my long johns under my other pair of non skinny jeans (my other pair of jeans a bit baggy la kay so it gets cold especially in this kind of weather now). I was meeting my friend Jon on Sunday and he goes "Wow zhiyi... you're wearing skinnies! That's.. so NOT zhiyi" =__=;; obviously i was all what-is-that-supposed-to-mean lah but ah well i didn't think of it after that la.

Then on Monday i wore my skinny jeans again to uni and this time my other friend Pi commented on my skinnies.

Pi: Wah zhiyi, you're wearing skinny jeans! Eh jon look at zhiyi! *signals to jon next to him*

Jon: Yeah i know man. She was wearing them yesterday.

me: Err.. yeah.. what is up with everyone and my jeans la?

Pi: No la, just that you look better.

me: So you mean previously i looked bad in my other pairs of jeans la issit??!!

Pi: Nooo.... why can't this be "better" and the previous one "good"? aaahh see!

me: Good save Pi.. Good save. You know what, i'm just not gonna wear this pair of jeans anymore. =__=;;

Today i wore my other pair of baggy jeans instead. At music practice, Pi looked at me and went "zhiyi.. today not so nice la" =____=;;; wth. why are the 1st yrs bullying me weh.

But it got me thinking. Shit man.. do i really dress that frumpily ar? okay la so the shock and surprise that came with me wearing my skinnies is effectively sorta like a compliment and i'm flattered coz i don't get these kind of compliments often. lol. But the thing that's gotten me worried is the hidden implication behind these comments; coz their comments imply that i usually don't look that great... I mean i know i don't have the best fashion sense or the most amazing wardrobe collection but i'd like to think that i pass off as okay la. But recent comments have gotten me wondering if I actually need to i don't know.. improve? i don't think i'm THAT bad right? i mean, i wear the standard t-shirt and jeans la. (bet you Reg would frown here coz she hates Tshirts. she thinks they're an abomination. lol) But anyway, how wrong can that get? okay so i have some really baggy looking jeans laa.. but that's coz they're comfortable.. and like.. when i wore them in msia it was okay wert.

Okay, so skinnies are much nicer to put on in the UK coz it actually keeps you warm coz it's skin hugging. And i can actually find skinnies that fit me here in the UK (wah i swear i was like DAMN happy when i bought my first pair of skinnies from Gap last year) But like.. i'm sure everyone else has like.. non-skinny jeans right? Baggy jeans anyone? No?

Or maybe i just need to get more skinnies.

It's in about 2 weeks so as you can see i won't be updating my blog anytime soon. Well.. i might if i need to rant. but anyway chances are i'll prob be too poofed out to rant or will be satisfying my need for Jdramas or Arashi related vids online (yes i've officially become a fan of Arashi but not of their music. just of their tv shows and their general baka-ness). Anyway, although it's not like any of u guys can come and physically support me during Mnight (since the bulk of u guys are either in Malaysia or Aussie or Japan (kok hong lol..) or US (sun..)), at least u can still enjoy the trailer which my friend made.

This will have to be a short one because i MUST do my international law essay which is due in 5 days. 2500 words in 5 days = 500 words a day which actually should be okay but there is SO much reading to do for this friggin essay i'm not even sure if i can finish it on time. But.. i have to by hook or by crook. i'm not forfeiting my 20% just like that. It's bad enough that international law is apparently very difficult to study for/score or so my seniors tell me. oh joy.

Anyway.

So another year has passed. I guess I should've done the whole "reflecting on the year's events" on the 31st but i was busy.. err.. not doing my essay. The whole new year's celebration has always felt a bit strange ever since i came to the UK because I'm so used to finishing the school year by early November and then ushering in the new year knowing that i'll start a new school year. But since term starts in October in the UK, I usher in the new year worrying about essay deadlines.

Still, it's been another interesting year. 2008 was filled with new challenges and unexpected events. For one, I passed my first year of law school. yay. Yes, i didn't do that well but i was sure i'd just pass marginally. All things considered, I'm quite satisfied with my results especially property law (i thought i was a goner for that paper. it seems cramming in the library the night before and having my friend explain easements to me via examples of magic mushroom farming helped). I made an unexpected decision to run for a post in a society. Something i've NEVER done before. I still don't know how i feel about this yet.

I found new friends. I found new things i didn't like. I did stupid things (which i will not elaborate on) and I did things i'm proud of.

All in all... as Tori Amos would say, it was a Pretty Good Year.

well that's what i'd like to think anyway. I'm back at coventry now (after having gone to ilkley for a week or so). I just started on my essay today. once again i'd like to announce that i think i'm gonna be so screwed :S 3 friggin essays to do. THREE. and it's nearly 2 weeks into my 4-week break (which is not really a break all things considered).

sigh.

ah well. here are some photos of my trip up to Ilkley. I went with my friend Shirlene and we stayed at my family friend's place. Was actually quite enjoyable and more fun than i expected. To sum it up: I learned to jive/rock n' roll dance on my first night and i climbed up the Ilkley Moor on the 2nd day. Had curry for dinner at Bradford that night and the next day shirlene and i walked around Ilkley town and along the river running through the town. That night was the first time we decorated a christmas tree (haha so proud). Next day we decided to go to Haworth Village instead of Leeds because well.. Leeds is a city which will probably look like every other city more or less. But Haworth village is one of its kind (well... it probably wasn't back in the 18th century but it is now) and also the home of the Bronte sisters. Friday was spent pretty much milling about in the day and then travelling home the whole afternoon and evening. yep. that's pretty much it.
